Ohara Ikebana Lesson (Inclining Form)

Loading Classes/Events

Join 3rd Term Master Joe Rotella and create an Ohara School of Ikebana arrangement.

The lesson will start promptly at 10:30 AM. Please consider arriving at 10:15 AM so you’ll be set up and ready to start learning at 10:30. The lesson will end by noon. Your help cleaning up the room would be greatly appreciated. We must leave the room and have it look great by 12:30.

Joe will start the lesson with a brief history of the arrangement. Then, he’ll demonstrate how to create an Incling Form arrangement (Hana-isho Katamukeru-katachi [かたむけるかたち]), and then you’ll make your arrangement!

This form of arrangement makes the most of graceful, slanting materials.

If you don’t have a suitable container or tools, some are available to use on loan during the lesson. Quantities are limited, and you must arrange to borrow items in advance. Registering online, you can reserve a container, kenzan, and scissors.

Please get in touch with Joe Rotella (614.537.7077 or by email) if you have questions.

How To Reserve Your Seat

To reserve your seat, use the form on the upper left of this page. Indicate how many seats you need (i.e., 1); a form will appear below the ticket count. Enter the details for each person using the form, and indicate if they need to borrow a container, kenzan, or scissors. Finish by clicking Add to Cart.

Then click on the cart and proceed to checkout.

Registration for this event will close on Thursday, 3/7, at 9 PM EST.

Class is intended for adults 18 years of age or older.

Note: Flowers and containers shown in the photos are examples only. Flowers and containers used in glass will vary from those in the photos. The gallery of photos shows examples of suitable containers and clippers/scissors. It also shows an example of a kenzan (needle holder).

This class is being offered in collaboration with the Asian American Community Services (AACS).
