We are featuring the magical mysteries line from Rita Barakat and Emerald Creek!

By looking at the projects in this blog hope, you’ll be introduced to many ways of using these new and mysterious embossing powders, turning your works into magical art.

Check out this brand new line of embossing powders called Magical Mysteries by my friend and rock star artist, Rita Barakat in collaboration with Emerald Creek!

There are five amazing colors in the line; Mermaid Fin, Dragons Egg, Fairy Wings, Kiss of the Fairy and Midnight Magic.

Each one is unique. Dragons Egg has a bubbly texture when it’s heated, to look like a dragon’s skin. Kiss of the Fairy and Mermaid Fin sparkle like crazy! Fair Wings has several iridescent colors on top of a purplish-iridescent backdrop. Midnight Magic is a mix of royal blue and black and glows in the dark!

I chose Midnight Magic to make a D&D Dice Bag. The color is deep and rich and it glows in the dark! How cool is that!?

Materials

Step 1 - Design the Vinyl Stencil

Select a design and create the file for the Brother ScanNCut  Machine. CanvasWorkspace makes it easy to convert files you find on the web to cutting files.

Step 2 - Cut the Vinyl Stencil

Use the Brother ScanNCut  to cut the vinyl stencil (etchall® etchmask). I used a blade scale setting of 4 and a Cut Pressure setting of 0. You can also cut the stencil by hand using a craft knife or the etchall® Swivel Knife.

Step 3 - Weed the Vinyl Stencil

Weed the vinyl using the etchall® Detail Pick Tool to remove the parts of the design you want to heat emboss.

Step 4 - Slide Chipboard in to the Dice Bag

Insert a piece of chipboard or cardboard in to the dice bag to keep the 2 layers of fabric apart.

Step 5 - Transfer the Stencil

Cut a piece of etchall® etchmask transfer sheet slightly larger than the stencil and use it to transfer the stencil to the dice bag. Burnish the vinyl stencil on to the dice bag well. Remove the transfer sheet and burnish the stencil on to the dice bag again to be sure it didn’t lift when you removed the transfer sheet.

Step 6 - Apply Mod Podge Fabric

Use the Shortie Brush to apply Mod Podge® Fabric. Don’t apply it too thick. Use a short “pouncing” motion and be sure to cover the entire design.

Step 7 - Ready for Midnight Magic

The exposed design should be covered in Mod Podge® Fabric.

Step 8 - Apply Midnight Magic

Generously cover the exposed design with Magical Mysteries Midnight Magic. Lift the dice bag and dump the excess powder on to a piece of scratch paper that’s been creased down the center. Gently tap the back of the bag so you’re sure any excess powder has fallen on to the scratch paper.

Step 9 - Reclaim Excess Powder

Reclaim the excess embossing powder.

Step 10 - Remove Vinyl Stencil

Carefully peel away the vinyl stencil, leaving your design covered in Magical Mysteries Midnight Magic embossing powder. Use a small brush to remove any powder that may fall outside of your design.

Step 11 - Heat Emboss

Slowly melt the Magical Mysteries Midnight Magic Embossing Powder by using the heat gun, in circular motions, over the design. As the powder melts, move the gun and continue until all the powder is melted.
