Home decoration started with early cave dwellers painting pictures on their walls. Only nobles and the very wealthy enjoyed the trappings of a beautifully appointed home until home furnishing became affordable in the 1700s. In the 1800s mass production continued to keep furniture, wall coverings, and fabric available to more people.
