Zing Mat Tips

  • When not in use, keep your Zing Mat covered with the protective sheet supplied with the mat. That prevents dust from accumulating on the mat.
  • Occasionally wipe your Zing Mat with a baby wipe to remove any dust or lint.
  • It’s also helpful to have mats that vary in their degree of “stickiness.” A new Zing Mat is very sticky and holds thicker items well, suck as painted canvas, chipboard, cardboard, denim, leather, heavy cardstock, regular cardstock,  and glittered cardstock. Over time, the Zing Mat can become less sticky. That can be ideal when working with delicate materials such as thin papers, tissue paper, vellum, thin patterned papers, vinyl, computer paper and such.
  • If your mat is too sticky for your liking, simply blot a clean piece of cotton against it (like a man’s undershirt). That will make it less sticky.
  • When the mat complete looses its stickiness, you can replace it, use it to make a “squishy” mat (used when embossing or piercing), or make it sticky again with spray temporary adhesive.

“Re-sticking” a Zing Mat

  1. Spray a light layer Goo Gone GGHS12 Goo Remover Spray Gel over your Zing Mat and let it sit for 15 minutes or so.
  2. Take a plastic scraper or old credit card and scrape loosened adhesive from the mat. Repeat these steps until the mat is completely free of adhesive.
  3. Apply painters tape around the border of the mat so only the center 12×12 area is exposed.
  4. Once you have a clean mat you can use an adhesive of your choice to bring the tacky back. Many crafters use Aleene’s Tack-It Over & Over 4oz
or a spray temporary adhesive like Krylon 10.25-Ounce Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive Spray. With Aleen’s you’ll want make a 50% glue and 50% water mixture and brush that onto your mat. Let it dry for 20 minutes, brush on another coat, and let that dry for 24 hours. If you’re using a spray adhesive be sure it’s not permanent (i.e.., it must be temporary) and follow the directions on the can to coat the 12×12 area.
  5. Your Zing Mat should now be as good as new!
