Now on to the card I created start off the New Year…

Lady In Chair (14669) from Viva Las Vegastamps!Viva Las Vegastamps! has one of the largest stamp lines I’ve ever seen, and many of them are a beat “off-beat.” I love the unusual characters and sentiments. When I saw Lady In Chair 2 1/4 x 3 3/4 #14669 I new I had to use her on a card. I think she goes great with I Have Two Personalities 3/4 x 2 1/4 #18021 sentiment stamp. I Have Two Personalities (18021) from Viva Las Vegastamps!

When I think of crazy, I think of someone’s mind spinning – like the effect you get with an archimedean spiral.

I used Inkscape, an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator &  CorelDraw, to create the spiral. It’s just under 6″ in diameter. I printed it out on blue paper, mounted it on a piece of cardboard and put an eyelet in the center.

The card base measures 6″ square. Since it’s black, I lined it with a blue circle so it would easier to write a note inside. The front of the card is covered with the same blue paper used for the background of the spiral. To make it easier to reach the spinner, I used a 2″ circle punch to make a notch on the front of the card base. Insert an eyelet in the center of the card front.

I stamped the Lady In Chair 2 1/4 x 3 3/4 #14669 on white cardstock and colored her with Copic markers.  I Have Two Personalities 3/4 x 2 1/4 #18021 is stamped on blue paper and punched with a ticket punch. The embellishments (Lady in Chair and sentiment) can only be attached to the card at the center of the spiral. So, to make the sentiment “float” above the spiral, I mounted the Lady in Chair and sentiment on a small rectangle of acetate.

With all the pieces done, I could assemble the card. Join the spiral to the card base with a brad and secure the acetate piece to the top of the brad. I put a small washer between each layer of the card so the spinner could really fly! When you can spin the spiral, the Lady In Chair 2 1/4 x 3 3/4 #14669 ends up sitting in a crazy place!

Viva Las VegaStamps! The next stop on your blog hop is Lyneen Jesse’s blog, I’m Dreaming of Castles. Enjoy your hop, good luck and Happy New Year!

Happy Crafting!

Joe’s mom started the family on crafting. As early as he can remember, his mom was crocheting. When she brought home a Brother knitting machine, he was fascinated and soon he was creating designs from Christening dresses to ski wear. He dabbled in macramé, string art and latch hooked rugs when they were hot in the 70’s. Now, in his mid-forties, Joe’s turned his eye to paper crafting. He loves detail and 3D work and paper piecing is his specialty. Joe’s work has appeared in Scrap & Stamp Arts and Just Steampunk! magazines. He’s filmed a segment of Crafting at the Spotted Canary with Joy Macdonell (airs on PBS Fall 2011) and has won Archiver’s One-of-a-Kind Wall Art contest (Ohio, August 2011). He’s on the Viva Las Vegastamps! design team. When he’s not designing paper art projects, he works as CTO at Delphia Consulting.
