Project Description

I discovered a new way to save and display precious photos and memorabilia—Globecraft Memories 3D keeper frames. This butterfly kit comes with the globe, pre-cut designer paper, butterfly cut-outs, and these pieces to assemble the frame.

Globe Parts

To begin the project I painted a thin layer of 3D Crystal Lacquer on the oval pieces and adhered the appropriate pre-cut paper. While those pieces were drying I positioned my photo on the back plate and adhered it with tape adhesive. Next, I inked all the edges with a Tombow marker (color 158).

Then the assembly of the pieces. Again I used Crystal Lacquer to adhere the globe to the back of the largest oval. This piece was then glued to the back plate. I used pop dots to adhere the medium and small ovals.

I shaped the wings of butterfly cut-outs by gently pulling them across a scissor blade. The same way you do with curling ribbon—only not quite so much pressure.

I found the directions for the 3D dragonfly on Penny Duncan’s blog.  She has a complete video tutorial and she generously shares the cut files. The body and under wings where cut from cardstock and the upper wings are acetate—all cut on the BossKut Gazelle using Sure Cuts A Lot. The upper wings were inked with alcohol inks. After the dragonfly pieces were assembled I used Crystal Lacquer on the body and sprinkled with hematite glitter. I mounted the dragonfly on a Z-folded strip of acetate so it floats over the globe.

I used pink and gold 3D Crystal Pastel Glitter Lacquer to accent the flowers and features on the designer paper.

I used my own photo in the frame, so I had the picture that comes with the kit left over. I couldn’t let that go to waste, and I love the sentiment, so I used it to decorate the support on the back of the frame.

Very pretty Carole! I love how you used the Crystal Lacquer on this. The hovering dragonfly is especially cool!
