I decided to upscale a garage sale clock Hello Kitty style. Here’s the clock that I started with.
I began by covering the rim of the clock face with pattern tape.
Next, I traced the outline of the clock front and back onto patterned scrapbook paper. I used PPA from USArtQuest to apply the papers to the clock using collage techniques. I used an artist’s paint brush to cover the clock with PPA. Then, positioned the paper on the clock and covered with another coat of PPA. Tip: When collaging with scrapbook papers, dip the paper in water before positioning it. This equalizes the surface tension and prevents curling when applying the wet adhesive. I collaged the clock front first, then the back. The side band was the next piece to be collaged onto the clock. Last, I collaged the trim along the bottom edge of the front and sides. I used the same pattern tape along the bottom of the clock back that I used on the clock face.
I scanned the Hello Kitty face and Joey in the airplane, and did a print-and-cut using my Zing electronic cutting machine. I used a strip of acetate to suspend Joey above the clock. He moves with air currents and looks just likes he’s flying.
